Actor Kim Soo-hyun Refutes Claims of Long-Term Relationship with Late Actress Kim Sae-ron
Recent allegations have surfaced regarding a purported six-year relationship between actor Kim Soo-hyun and the late actress Kim Sae-ron, starting when she was a minor. These claims have been firmly denied by Kim's agency, Gold Medalist, labeling them as "clearly false information."
The controversy arose when an individual, identifying as Kim Sae-ron's aunt, appeared on the YouTube channel 'Garo Sero Institute' (Gaseyeon), asserting that Kim Sae-ron began dating Kim Soo-hyun in 2015 at the age of 15, continuing their relationship for six years. The family member further claimed that in 2019, Kim Sae-ron transitioned her management to Gold Medalist, a company co-founded by Kim Soo-hyun, and played a pivotal role in its early development by assisting with talent scouting and visual directing. The relative expressed that despite her dedication, Kim Sae-ron was ultimately "discarded like an old shoe."
According to the family member, following Kim Sae-ron's DUI incident in 2022, Kim Soo-hyun provided her with 700 million won (approximately $600,000) without immediate expectations of repayment. However, it was alleged that in March 2024, Kim Soo-hyun's side sent a certification of contents demanding repayment, after which he became unreachable. The family member suggested that financial pressures contributed to Kim Sae-ron's tragic passing on February 16, 2025, coinciding with Kim Soo-hyun's birthday.
In response, Gold Medalist issued a statement categorically denying these allegations, stating, "The content claimed by Garo Sero Institute regarding actor Kim Soo-hyun is clearly false information." The agency emphasized that the assertions about the alleged relationship starting when Kim Sae-ron was 15, the mishandling of her DUI incident, and any collusion with YouTuber Lee Jin-ho are "malicious claims" and that they plan to take legal action. They also expressed condolences for Kim Sae-ron's passing but criticized Gaseyeon for perpetuating "cyber reckless behavior" that harms the deceased's reputation.
