2024.12.3 Martial Law Declaration: An Event That Must Never Happen Again in a Democratic Korea
Dear citizens, I appeal to you as your president with a heart full of blood.
So far, the National Assembly has proposed 22 impeachment motions against government officials since our government’s launch, and the 10th impeachment is currently underway since the inauguration of the 22nd National Assembly in June. This situation is not only unprecedented in any country, but it is also a circumstance that has never occurred since the founding of our country.
The judiciary is being paralyzed by intimidating judges and impeaching numerous prosecutors. The executive branch is also being paralyzed through attempts to impeach the Minister of Public Administration and Security, the Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, the Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection, and the Minister of National Defense.
Furthermore, they have completely slashed the entire budget for critical national functions, including tackling drug crimes and maintaining public safety, severely damaging the nation’s core functions and transforming the Republic of Korea into a haven for drug crimes and chaos in public safety.
The Democratic Party has reduced the budget by 1 trillion won for disaster preparedness reserves, 38.4 billion won for child care support, youth employment, and deep-sea gas field development, totaling 4.1 trillion won. They even blocked improvements in military personnel salaries and allowances. This budgetary tyranny is, in essence, a mockery of the financial stability of the Republic of Korea. The Democratic Party’s legislative dictatorship, using the budget as a tool for political strife, did not hesitate to take aim at the budget itself.
Government functions are paralyzed, and citizens’ suffering is increasing. This is a clear anti-state act, undermining the constitutional order of the free Republic of Korea and disturbing the legitimate institutions set by the Constitution and law. It is a plot to bring about insurrection.
The people’s welfare is ignored, and the government is paralyzed due to impeachment, special prosecution, and the political protection of opposition leaders. Our National Assembly has become a den of criminals, using legislative dictatorship to paralyze the country’s judicial and administrative systems and attempt to overthrow the liberal democratic regime.
The National Assembly, which should uphold the foundation of liberal democracy, has turned into a monster that destroys that very system. The Republic of Korea is now at a critical point where it could collapse at any moment.
Dear citizens, I declare martial law to protect the free Republic of Korea from the threat of communist forces from the North, to eradicate the shameless pro-North Korea anti-state forces that have been plundering our people's freedoms and happiness, and to protect the constitution.
Through this martial law, I will rebuild and protect the Republic of Korea, which is on the brink of ruin. To do so, I will absolutely eradicate the anti-state forces that have caused the country’s downfall.
This is an unavoidable measure to protect the people’s freedom, safety, and the sustainability of the nation from anti-state forces who are trying to overthrow the system, ensuring a proper future for the generations to come. I will swiftly eliminate the anti-state forces and restore normalcy to our nation.
While the declaration of martial law may cause some inconvenience to the good citizens who have trusted and followed the constitutional values of our nation, I will focus on minimizing such inconveniences. These measures are necessary for the long-term sustainability of the Republic of Korea, and the nation’s foreign policy of fulfilling its responsibilities and contributions in the international community will remain unchanged.
As your president, I earnestly appeal to the people. I will trust only in you, and with all my heart, I will protect the free Republic of Korea. Please place your trust in me. Thank you.
It is crucial to note that such a martial law should never occur again. The very essence of democracy is at stake, and any step backward in democratic principles is a dangerous path. This must be prevented to ensure that Korea remains a thriving, democratic society.
